Garden Tower Defense Best Plants

Last updated 2026-09-13

Sort order: none — this is a method page, not a ranking

Every unit in Garden Tower Defense is a plant, so "best plants" and "best units" ask almost the same question. Rather than repeat a ranked table here (see Best Units for one sorted by DPS + cost efficiency, or Best DPS for a pure-DPS sort), this page explains the method: what stats actually matter and why a raw DPS number can be misleading, using examples not featured on those other pages.

The stat block every plant shares

Every unit page on the game's Fandom wiki reports the same fields, which means you can compare any two plants on equal footing:

Why a raw DPS number doesn't tell the whole story

PlantDPS-only pictureWhat the DPS number misses
Ghost Pepper6 → 177 (looks weak)Also applies fire damage-over-time separately from its listed Damage stat — the DPS figure undersells it
Umbra30 → 300 (mid-tier at best)Can attack hidden/stealthed enemies that other units can't target at all — a utility role no DPS number captures
Watermelon44 → 480Deals damage in bursts (1x up to 10x multiplier) rather than a steady rate, so its effective output spikes unevenly
Money TreeNo DPS stat at allIt's not supposed to fight — it generates +20 to +65 Seeds income per cycle instead

The lesson: before dismissing a plant for a low DPS number, check whether it has a damage-over-time effect, a detection ability, burst mechanics, or an economy role that a single number doesn't represent.
