How PvP actually works
PvP is a 1v1 mode: both players build defenses and send enemies to each other's base at the same time.
- A 60-second ban phase opens each match — each player can ban up to 5 units, bans are hidden from the opponent, and Timekeeper is banned by default in every match, ranked or casual.
- After bans, each player picks 5 units from their own inventory to bring into the match.
- The match runs like Classic Mode for 50 waves, then escalates into a "Tiebreak" phase where the enemies are Moth Overlords — immune to stun effects.
- Whoever's base survives longest wins; simultaneous losses are a draw.
- Ranked mode has 9 ELO tiers from Wood to Champions, each with its own reward tier.
What the developers' own design tells you
- Timekeeper is banned in every single match by default — that's the developers themselves flagging it as strong enough to need a blanket ban, not a community opinion.
- Stun-based crowd control loses value in the Tiebreak phase, since Moth Overlords are immune to it. A unit like Golem, whose whole kit is a stun ability, would stop contributing crowd control once Tiebreak starts (and it's no longer obtainable regardless — see Best Units).
Second source: a tested creator's real PvP loadout
We checked "The BEST PvP Guide After the Update | Garden Tower Defense 1.47" by RDO (21,871 views, published April 22, 2026) — a dedicated PvP guide from a channel with 152 videos specifically about this game.
The creator walks through his current PvP loadout unit by unit: Snowmobile Shoveler as the opening starter, Infectia as "my main AoE," Egg Basket Stem for slowing enemies, Confusioflora as a stalling/tank pick, and a second AoE unit, Bunny Barrel, to round it out.
This gives a concrete, named 5-unit PvP loadout from a tested source: Snowmobile Shoveler (starter), Infectia (main AoE), Egg Basket Stem (slow), Confusioflora (stall/tank), and Bunny Barrel (secondary AoE). None of these five units are in our wiki-verified pool yet, so we're reporting this as the creator's tested claim, not as wiki-cross-checked fact — but it's a real, dated, named recommendation, which is a meaningfully different standard than the unverifiable TikTok clips we ruled out below.
What we still couldn't verify: a numerically-ranked "best 3-unit team"
Beyond the one loadout above, most other search results for a top PvP team composition are short-form videos without a confirmable title, publish date, or shown result, and no official Discord PvP strategy discussion was checked this round.
Unconfirmed
- Whether Snowmobile Shoveler, Infectia, Egg Basket Stem, Confusioflora, and Bunny Barrel's stats match the Fandom wiki — none of these five are in our checked-unit pool yet.
- A numerically-ranked "best team" beyond this one creator's reported loadout.
- Whether any currently-obtainable unit fills the crowd-control role Golem used to, now that Golem is unobtainable and stuns don't work in Tiebreak anyway.
